After graduating from the University of Vermont, Dana Barris Brenick moved to Breckenridge and then San Francisco before settling in Boulder, were the small-town feel and active lifestyle felt like home. It was here, while hiking Sanitas, that Dana contemplated a career in either real estate or electrolysis, something she had been introduced to back in college. She settled on the latter and opened Barris Laser & Skincare in 1997.

Originally offering only electrolysis, Dana steadily grew both her services and staff. Today, Barris Laser & Skincare is a premier medispa offering a full range of services including skincare, lasers, massage, and more. No longer the only employee, Dana now oversees a skilled team including three estheticians, two massage therapists, and two front-of-house employees.

“We are a family here,” says Dana. “We all have different talents but a shared goal of making people feel good about themselves. It’s the best job on earth.”

Given Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle, the spa aptly specializes in anti-aging. The focus is to slow down the aging process, not extreme reversal. One of Dana’s favorite treatments is micro needling. The procedure helps with fine lines and wrinkles, but does so without photosensitivity so it can be done any time of the year, making it great for those with an active lifestyle.

“We help our clients grow gracefully by enhancing themselves, not changing themselves,” says Dana.

In an industry fraught with misinformation, Dana and her team use their expertise to provide detailed consultations and guidance to their clients. The experience is so personalized that many clients become long-term customers.

That said, the spa is always welcoming new faces – often by referral from their regulars. Clientele ranges from CU students to people in their 60s and 70s and is reflected in the spa’s broad spectrum of offerings. The spa now offers monthly memberships with different tiers based on needs and budget.

“It’s a good way to do monthly maintenance on yourself, like working out,” says Dana.

Additionally, the spa offers monthly and bimonthly treatment specials, and it highlights a different product regularly so guests can try something new at a discount.

Originally located near Pearl Street Mall, Dana relocated to the Village Shopping Center two years ago and continues to thrive.

“We love being in the Village. We have fantastic neighbors and the quality of these businesses is a step above the rest.”

Although Boulder feels like a much bigger place than it did 20 years ago, a small-town feel is still alive and well at Barris Laser & Skincare.
