COMMUNITY:

Community Player of the Month: McGuckin Hardware's Barry Hight

(Barry pictured right with his parents Dave and Dee Hight)

The Village's Community Player this month is Barry Hight of the family owned and operated McGuckin Hardware. A Boulder favorite for 56 years, McGuckin Hardware has made a name for itself for its huge stock of merchandise, dedication to customer service and its knowledgeable and eager to help staff found in the signature McGuckin green vest.

Barry can be found in the aisles of McGuckin Hardware helping customers find exactly what they are looking for, and sometimes things they didn't even know they needed! He knows many customers by name and often takes the time to have conversation or tell an interesting story.

Being a part of a local business for much of his life, Barry shared his favorite aspects of owning a local business; "I love meeting great people, assisting them in finding their needs in creative and knowledgeable ways and being a part of such a wonderful community". Living in Boulder for 50 years Barry says that his favorite parts of owning a business in Boulder are, "The community and the outdoor lifestyle in Boulder. People in Boulder are active, alive, and DOER's".

McGuckin Hardware uses its strong ties and large customer base in Boulder to support and give back to the community whenever possible. Many of the organizations and events that the store and its staff support are listed below.

Bonfils Blood Center - Host blood drive bus in McGuckin Hardware parking lot 5 to 6 times per year.

Humane Society - Host pet adoption trailer when requested. The store also donates damaged bags of pet food.

Community Shares / United Way - Provide payroll deduction program to accommodate employee contribution and McGuckin Hardware contributes annually.

Community Food Share – This past year, the store hosted a canned food drive to benefit Community Food Share.

Young Life Boulder – This group runs the Tent Sale food stand twice each year with profits going to their organization plus they receive a donation from McGuckin Hardware for providing the service.

Proceeds from annual holiday gift wrap "tips" are donated to a local non-profit each year.

They allow Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to set up a table in the store for their annual fundraisers.

McGuckin Hardware processes approx. 300 donations each year to local events, organizations and individuals. Most often, donation is in the form of a gift card to serve as a door prize, auction/silent auction item.

To find out more about the in store events, visit McGuckin Hardware's website, Facebook & Twitter
